Life Week #102 - Eternal city
Every adult should visit Rome; but once is perfectly enough
We traveled to Rome. We walked over 75km through the streets of the Eternal City. We could name our visit a pretty full Rome experience - with guided tours, the full taste of Roman cuisine, and the sun beautifully shining over our longing heads. It was amazing to feel the sense of the ancient city with all the ancient buildings, walls, columns & churches. You can feel the history nearly around each corner.
The other thing is that you can be both amazed and disgusted when you think about Rome as the monument of the human lust for power, pride, cruelty & money and as the symbol of hypocrisy; both in the secular and the spiritual perspectives. The scale of the Colosseum, Forum Romanum, Palatine, Pantheon, or other historical buildings is astonishing. The same applies to St. Peter's Basilic. The wealth inside the Vatican Museums or the beauty of the Sistine Chapel is breathtaking but also makes me feel sad looking at the poverty of the world outside borders.
I believe that every adult should visit Rome once - to see the past, to feel the history, to build their own perspective on this city. I am unsure if this is a place for children - they might not notice or appreciate many details, also visiting might be very tiring for them. I also see no reason to visit it again after seeing all the top things to see.
Dear Reader, add visiting Rome to your bucket list. It might really change your perspective on the way you see some things.
