Life Week #42 - Wisdom testing

Even the best theory is just a theory without testing in practice

Winter has arrived in Poland. The first days of winter are extremely difficult due to both drivers and roads being unprepared for the winter to come. Freezing rain, roads not covered with salt or sand, summer tires on some cars - that's the reality we all have to face in the first days of real snowy winter.

So, winter arrived in Poland on Friday afternoon, just in the middle of the end-of-the-week rush on the streets of big cities. It arrived exactly at the moment when I was leaving my flat in Katowice to drive to Kraków for the 20th anniversary of my high school graduation.

As I joined the traffic jam already next corner to my flat I was already full of frustration about the risks and difficulty of the journey. For the next hour, each crossing was the opportunity for me to consider turning around and going back to the flat. The temptation was huge, especially having in mind that I was super stressed having in mind the perspective of meeting people I haven't seen for 20 years. This was also the moment I decided to try the little steps approach: let's see what's the traffic after the crossing, let's see if the road is better after the corner, let's see how fast can I drive once this slow car turns right, etc.

As it occurred I was able to successfully reach a destination without huge stress. Sure, in normal conditions it would take me 50-70% of the time needed this time but I made it. And the anniversary meeting was great!
