Life Week #96 - Last Christmas

The retrospective is educating but be careful - it can both motivate and demotivate you

It's Christmas time so I had to use the opportunity to look back a year ago. Usually what I am used to is reading or listening to people proud of what they have achieved in the past year - the idea for that is to feel proud but also to prove and motivate others that lots can be done within a year.

Health

I've never slept better like in the last year. Good sleep gives me energy for the whole day. The first half of the year was very active and I've been in great shape. However, due to the tennis elbow injury, I had to stop lots of fitness activities recently. I am also fighting my cholesterol with medicines which has a side effect impacting my muscles. Still, I run a half-marathon and feel pretty good even after reaching forty!

Love

I have been married for 15 years already! It was a very good year for my relationship and I am only hoping for the better.

Children

So, my son is not a wrestler anymore. I believe the major issue we face right now is related to the teenager rebellion. It's not an easy time to motivate him to learn new things, to do any activities other than computer games and talking to friends. On the flip side, our daughter, after moving to sports class is growing both in sports and in school. She has strong fellow kids and she grows with them. She is also still singing and already had an opportunity to sing with Polish stars on the same stage.

Family

The family will not be younger anymore. All the issues we faced last year stayed with us for this year too. The situation is stable for now but it's rather walking a line not on a pavement.

Work

I stayed in the same company in the same project for the whole year. I considered my options but for now, this project lets me learn a lot and grow as a developer so I am happy to be a part of it.

Business

Our online shop with supporting materials for teachers is launched but it's not a great success. We failed to promote it in social media to work on brand and visibility so I'd call it a project on hold. Another startup project is reaching the MVP stage but lacks a bit of focus from co-founders. Let's hope we start selling next year.

Finance

It was a very good year from a financial point of view. We managed to save approximately 35-40% of our income. We sold an old investment flat and purchased another one to replace it. We also became the owners of the older house in the countryside our aunt lives in now. We are taking care of her and slowly starting the renovation of the house.

Summary

2023 was a year when so many things happened in our life. We are in good shape, we haven't faced any bigger crisis, and our financial situation is better than ever. Let's hope the good times are not over yet.
