My Week 189 - I am a marathoner!
The expected one always happens, but in the unexpected moment
I did it! I completed my first marathon! I completed the bloody 42195 meters' run 59 seconds before the 5-hour time ticked. The finalization of my 7-year-long journey with running was worth all the effort. With a knee that hurt, with a heart that was not a hundred percent ready, with the lack of condition and previous experience, it was a journey into the unknown. From the beginning, I controlled my speed, and it was a great strategy, thanks to which I was able to hit the first 36 kilometers without any serious crisis. The next two kilometers, however, were all about the final uphill run that probably made me more exhausted than I expected. At that moment, I should use my second and last energy gel to survive the last 4 kilometers, but I felt good and I expected the easy finish. Well, I could not be more wrong.
My minimal target for this marathon was to complete it. My maximal target, keeping in mind my previous lack of preparation, was to complete it within 5 hours. As this was an official race, there were many pacemakers, including the ones that targeted 5h. They started strongly and I lost the contact with them after the first 30 minutes, but I made my math and I controlled my speed. In the middle of the final uphill, after 37 kilometers, I caught them and started running away. In that moment, I started to believe that my dream might come true and I could complete all the goals related to running at once! Well, if the marathon lasted only 38 kilometers...
I hit the wall a few moments after reaching the top of the hill. I hit the wall hard near the 40th kilometer. I could not run at all! Every few hundret meters I had to slow down to walk for a while and the pacemakers started to close down the distance! 1500 meters, 1200 meters, according to my timer, I had 9 minutes to complete it, and it should not be a problem. I normal conditions. But I was barely alive. The pacemakers were catching me, and before the finish line, before entering the stadium, there was the final small uphill. I have no bloody idea how I made it to the top and entered the stadium. I simply flushed those memories out of my mind. Once I reached the stadium, it was a different story. I forgot about everything, I picked up the phone and started recording the video for my family and friends. I felt only joy and relaxation, I felt no pain, I knew that I can make it... My final time was 59 seconds before the 5-hour ringed bell. I made it, I am the true marathoner!
