My Week #200 - Last Christmas
The retrospective is educating but be careful - it can both motivate and demotivate you
It’s Christmas time, so I had to use the opportunity to look back on a year ago. Usually, what I am used to is reading or listening to people who are proud of what they have achieved in the past year - the idea for that is to feel proud but also to prove and motivate others that lots can be done within a year.
Health
My arrhythmia is not killing me yet. I adjusted my life to live with my disease. I had a full set of medical tests confirming that there is nothing bad happening with my heart.
At the same time, my knee collapsed totally this year. I have not been running for five months in a row until I fixed itself just for the moment to do the marathon before it got broken again.
This is why I am not running for now. Will it mean the end of my running career? I believe it’s too early to say, but we’ll see.
Overall, everything went smoothly to complete the marathon, but other than that, I don’t feel like someone in great shape.
Love
Last year of my marriage was a stable one. It’s been 17 years already, and I am proud of that. We still face some ups & downs, but find ways to solve those issues, which is great.
Children
My son had a mental boost when he changed schools this year. He still behaves childishly and immaturely, but sometimes it’s a bit better already. Old issues stay, new issues did not appear yet. Changing school give him an additional relationship boost, but still, sometimes it is difficult to encourage him to good habits. Patience, patience is all we need.
Our daughter has her own struggles - with emotions, with sensitivity, with building relationships. She became a teenager, and we can hear that pretty loudly from time to time. This ain’t expected behaviour, but this is something we probably need to work on. She still sings. I am unsure if this is still her passion, but she has a group of friends who love K-pop and are creating their own band.
Family
The family will not be younger anymore. All the issues we faced last year stayed with us for this year too. The situation is stable for now, but it’s rather walking a line, not on a pavement.
Work
My decision to change my workplace to a corporate environment wasn’t the luckiest one. This year was a long nightmare full of absurd situations. The second part of the year was an emotional rollercoaster. Everyday I was wondering if my contract will be extended and what will the future would bring.
As the situation was really unstable, I decided to look for another position. 5 months and 19 recruitment process later, I can finally confirm that I have a new job. This time, I am starting in a well-grown and well-known startup. Position looks exciting, but let’s see how I judge this move in a year's time.
Business
A short-term loan for my apartment was not the best shot. After 9 months, we decided to quit the contract and start the process of selling this flat. The price is a bit high, so I believe it will take some time before we’re able to sell it.
When it comes to side projects, I completed the prototype of the AI app but I have no good news from my business partner responsible for finding investors. For now topic is considered as completed on my side.
Other than that, I am finally building my first app in years - a remaster of my old game. Well, to be precise, It’s not the first app I am building - but the first app so close to complete.
Finance
We bought a small land in the countryside & we renovated the kitchen in the countryside. Keeping that in mind, I am happy to admit that after getting rid of all savings last year, we reconstructed our savings this year, so it looks good for now. We seem to be in much better shape compared to last year.
Summary
It was a good year. I completed a marathon. I failed to have any spectacular failures. We are still in good shape. Keep it up, just keep it up 💪
